At one time HTML Writer achieved the designation of being the best freeware text editor available for HTML publishing. It did so for many reasons, not least of which are its great -- if slightly outdated -- features.

HTML Writer's appearance, ease of use, and abundance of features have allowed the client to remain popular among Web designers over the last few years, but editors like TextPad and UltraEdit have largely supplanted the former king of text editors due to its discontinued development in 1995.
