Critical Windows Patch Around the Corner
Six Plugs for Windows Set for Patch Tuesday
Tim Gray

Heads up Microsoft customers. The monthly patch schedule for next Tuesday includes six security updates affecting Windows, one of which is rated "critical."

As part of its Thursday ritual of letting customers know what's on tap for its once-a-month patch schedule, Microsoft said it plans six patches for next Tuesday, Aug. 9, for Windows versions. The highest Maximum Severity rating for these is Critical, it added.

In addition, Microsoft plans to release an updated version of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool via its Windows Update, Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services, and its Download Center. However, the tool will not be distributed using Software Update Services (SUS).

Microsoft also said it will release one non-security but high-priority update via these same delivery channels.

In its e-mail to customers, Microsoft said the notification of coming patches and security upgrades is focused only on Windows updates, as well as high-priority, non-security updates released on the same day as security updates.

Last month's set of patches included fixes for three critical vulnerabilities in Windows and for Microsoft Word.
