Interface and Configuration
Panda's interface has a very nice and clean, easy-to-use look and feel to it. You can easily navigate your way through: immediate scans, scheduled scans, scans at system startup and activity reports of resident viruses. You can even navigate through your internet protection scans. Also, if you only have the evaluation version of the program, it shows you how much longer you can use the program at the bottom left hand corner of the screen at all times.
There are two different interfaces, basic and advanced. The main difference between the two is that the basic gives you a description of the different sections at all times while the advanced mode leaves it out. After the first time you use Panda, you really don't need the descriptions anymore and can just switch to the advanced mode which also adds a few additional minor options.
The only downfall that I can see from it's interface is that it looks almost exactly like another Antivirus program called PC-Cillin. It does have differences in the interface and options, but Panda's look might still remind you of PC-Cillin.
Test 2: Configuration Capabilities
If you really want to set up your own scans and configure them, then all you have to do is hit the configure icon at the top of the screen in whichever section you choose. In this test we used the Internet Resident's configuration capabilities.
When you get there you will notice that it has a lot of options to choose from in your scans. You can check what types of files you want scanned in your emails and if you want incoming or outgoing emails scanned. You can even choose what types of items you want scanned such as: audio, video, images, and applications.
You can also select which types of Internet items that you want scanned which we'll talk more about later on. You can move over to the actions tab and select which action you want to take place on a virus when it is found. There is also an option to set it to send reports and warnings out to people, while blocking potentially risky addresses and ports.
Panda Antivirus Platinum has some great configuration capabilities and passes test 2 with flying colors; if you have it registered. You will notice when using the evaluation version that not all configuration options are available, meaning you'll need to register Panda in order to get the full effect.
