Piddling Performance for Analog Modem Users
Unfortunately, for those connecting to the Internet with an analog modem at 56 Kbps or lower, the current reality is less than amazing. Very slow transfer rates make this application interesting, if not entirely useful at these speeds. And while modem users can take advantage of CU-SeeMe's audio feeds, we recommend downloading a more specialized audio tool like RealPlayer or Windows Media Player if you're going to be listening to audio feeds on a regular basis.
A faster connection (a direct connection to the Internet, for example) makes CU-SeeMe much more interesting and useful, but most users will want to take a look at CUseeme Networks' Enhanced CU-SeeMe Pro client, which adds full-color video support and additional enhancements to the original Cornell CU-SeeMe client. Development and support have also ceased for Cornell's CU-SeeMe, with the enhanced Pro edition serving as the upgrade path for users of the Cornell release.
Pros: Black and white videoconferencing over the 'net, sites can send and receive video
Cons: Quality is too poor for modem users; extremely dated technology; discontinued — no longer developed or supported
