Forrest Stroud

MidPoint 5.0

Like v4.0, the most recent release of MidPoint, version 5.0, is a major upgrade that delivers impressive new features and useful enhancements for existing ones.

Here's a brief look at the new additions and enhancements in v5.0:

· An Ultra-Secure Firewall. MidPoint 5.0's integrated "Ultra-secure" firewall with alert notification offers full protection for the computer on which MidPoint runs as well as all the PCs on the computer's LAN. The firewall protects agains Trojan horses and similar computer viruses and also makes it possible to safely utilize Windows File and Print Sharing on the computer running MidPoint.

· New Protocol Support. MidPoint 5.0 offers support for the Microsoft VPN (PPTP/GRE) protocol for the first time.

· Content Control / Site Blocking. Separate content control and site blocking rules can be defined in MidPoint 5 on a user-by-user basis.

· Reporting Improvements. MidPoint 5 provides a report showing unauthorized access attempts that have been blocked by MidPoint’s firewall.

· Enhanced User Control / Access. In MidPoint 5, download rates and allowed Internet access times are now controllable on a user-by-user basis.

· Enhanced Connection Properties. New connection property options in MidPoint 5 include configurable "allowed connect times" on a connection-by-connection basis, the ability to specify DNS and mail servers on a connection-by-connection basis, and the ability to configure a connection for upload routing of requests only (designed specifically for "one-way" satellite and cable connections).

· Enhanced Setup Features. MidPoint runs a full evaluation of the operating system and networking environments before installation to ensure that the application will be able to run properly. MidPoint also automatically tests your Internet connection(s), including connections to your HTTP, POP3, and SMTP servers.

· MidPoint PLUS Release. A PLUS edition of MidPoint 5.0 offers additional features such as expanded connection teaming, e-mail server & management tools, and SoftHost Distributed Web Hosting (maintains complete copies of frequently accessed web sites locally for super-fast response time).

· New User Levels and Licensing Models. MidPoint 5 is offered in 3, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 250 and unlimited user-level editions with a one-time license fee starting at $79 for the 3-user edition. All user levels have less expensive licensing fees as of version 5.0.
