QuickTime for Windows
QuickTime 4
Forrest Stroud

QuickTime 4

The latest release of QuickTime, version 4, is a major upgrade that adds a variety of impressive feature additions to a completely redesigned interface. MP3 support is the new addition that stands out most; others include live video and audio streaming support, support for vector-based sprites and digital hot spots, a new Web installation program, support for Macromedia's Flash file format, multiple movie playback support via SML, and AppleScript support in the MacOS edition.

Version 4.1 adds support for Variable Bit Rate (VBR) MP3 files to this extensive list of new features. Overall, QuickTime for Windows makes for a must-have freeware audio/video player. And the audiophiles out there that crave for more features than the freeware release offers can't go wrong by stepping up to the Pro release of QuickTime.

Pros: Supports audio and video content, currently the only driver that plays MOV files

Cons: QuickTime moviews typically lack the quality and size of MPEG files
