One word of caution on Office 97 SR-2b -- this service release cannot be uninstalled or removed. The SR-2b patch updates files within your Windows operating system as well, and therefore cannot be removed manually. If, after installing SR-2b, you desire to return your Office files to their previous state, you will have to first uninstall Office 97 and then re-install it.
All in all, the Office 97 Service Release 1 is a vital upgrade for users of the suite and especially so for those who want to share files with users of other versions of Microsoft Office. And while SR-2/SR-2b isn't as essential an upgrade, if you've ever encountered a bug in an Office 97 app or are worried about running into one, this release is worth the download as well -- it may be large (20 MB), but you can't beat the price (it's free for registered users of Office 97, of course).
