Advanced Security and Additional Outlook Express Features
Security is another area where Outlook Express shines. Its support for Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME) ensures the security of your messages with digital signing options for verifying the identity of a sender and the integrity of a message as well as digital encryption for protecting the contents of your own messages from being read by someone other than the intended recipient.
As part of its partnership with Verisign, Outlook Express gives you the opportunity to obtain a free trial digital ID for digitally signing your own messages. As an addition security measure, Outlook Express utilizes Internet Explorer's Security Zones for protecting you from receiving and mailing at-risk Web pages.
Advanced features in Outlook Express include IMAP4 support (allows you to manage your mail account and messages from the remote server instead of having to first download the messages to your local computer), and LDAP services support (allows you to access LDAP-based directory servers in order to easily find the e-mail addresses of other users).
The extensive feature-set continues with an integrated spelling checker, support for vCards (electronic business cards that contain contact information as well as an optional digital ID), support for HTML mail (including the ability to send a Web page as an e-mail message directly from within Internet Explorer), and Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions HTML (MHTML) support for allowing you to embed images and other HTML elements directly into your mail messages.
