What's New in NT Service Packs 3 and 4
New features and upgrades in Service Pack 3 include CryptoAPI 2.0 (Microsoft Cryptography application programming interface for providing developers with core cryptographics and certificate functions), complete support for DirectX 3.0, password filtering capabilities, ODBC 3.0 (Microsoft Open Database Connectivity), an updated Server Message Block (SMB) authentication protocol, anonymous user access restrictions, and an upgraded remote procedure call (RPC) transport protocol. New features and upgrades in Service Pack 4 include a variety of Year 2000 (Y2K) fixes, Euro Key Patch for support of the new European "euro" currency symbol, DCOM/HTTP Tunneling TCP protocol, InternetGroup Management Protocol (IGMP) v2, Microsoft File and Print Service for NetWare Support for Client32, Remote Winsock, Routing Information Protocol (RIP) Listener, Message Queue (MSMQ) for Windows 95 Client; updates for MS Transaction Server, Certificate Server, Index Server, and IIS; and PPTP performance and security update.
SP-4 also includes IE 4.01 SP1, NetShow Services 3.01, and Windows Media Player as well as hundreds of bug fixes. Additional features and a complete listing of bug fixes are available in the SP-4 Release Notes.
