With the recent release of PowerDesk 4.0, there are now two separate versions of the suite available. The first is a completely freeware edition that includes the PowerDesk File Manager, the PowerDesk File Finder supporting tool, built-in zip and unzip capabilities, support for QuickView and QuickView Plus, and a dialog helper. The second edition is PowerDesk Pro, an enhanced release with more features and functions that retails for $19.95, which includes one year of free technical support.
New features in PowerDesk Pro 4.0 include a new FTP download manager, a customizable "Coolbar" for fast access to your favorite files, applications, and PowerDesk plug-ins; file viewing capabilities for more than 200 types of files; added e-mail support with automatic multi-part MIME decoding; a graphics conversion tool that helps you convert graphic files from one format to another; and a Size Manager tool that shows you which files are cluttering up your drive.
The Easy FTP download manager is an impressive new feature in PowerDesk Pro 4 that allows you to map remote FTP sites to drive letters and then drag and drop files to or from remote servers, directly in the PowerDesk File Manager. In our opinion, the addition of the Easy FTP tool alone is reason enough to upgrade to the Pro edition of PowerDesk.
