With its extensive set of features, many of which are unique to UltraEdit, UltraEdit would initially appear to be an easy recommendation over TextPad and similar editors. One area where TextPad bests UltraEdit is its toolbar and configuration management capabilities. UltraEdit's toolbar configuration manager appears jumbled and in need of much better organization. While the other aspects of the configuration manager aren't quite as counter-intuitive, they could also be made less confusing.
An area in which both of the editors could improve is the multiple find and replace capabilities. In both clients, the find and replace tools are primarily limited to replacing single lines of text, although both apps do offer the capability to copy multiple lines using special -- if somewhat esoteric -- characters.
