Norton Internet Security 2004
The Ad Banner Eliminator
Forrest Stroud

The Ad Banner Eliminator

Of Norton Internet Security's many features, the ad-blocking tool is the one we've enjoyed using the most. All it takes to completely eradicate nearly every type of Web advertisement banner is the click of one little button in NIS.

One of the reasons we have enjoyed using the Ad Blocker so much is that it makes Web surfing dramatically faster. It's amazing how fast a Web site loads when there are no ads to display, especially when so many ad banners these days use bandwidth-consuming animated GIFs and/or Java applets.

Alas, NIS doesn't remove every type of ad found on the Internet. Those that are created using JavaScript or other non-standard techniques can occasionally trip up the Ad Blocker. However, you can easily add individual banners that bypass the automatic blocker by dragging the ad graphic to Norton Internet Security's trashcan in the Ad Blocking dialog.

The Ad Blocker offers the ultimate in flexibility with a variety of advanced options for fine-tuning the blocker to your heart's content. The Ad Blocker includes options for overriding all automatic block rules for a specific site, overriding some but not all block rules for a specific site, and specifying specific ads (or ad servers) to be blocked on all Web sites.
