Printing 4 Pages On One Page

If you have good eyesight and want to save trees, you can print four pages to one page from any application under Windows 95. Here's how:

  1. Download a PostScript viewer application (RoPS or GhostScript/GhostView)
  2. Run the Add Printer Wizard (Start, Settings, Printers, Add Printer)
  3. Select Local Printer, Apple, Apple LaserWriter (or any other PostScript printer)
  4. Set the port to FILE:, answer No to Make Default Printer and Print Test Page
  5. Shuffle some Win95 diskettes or insert the Win95 CD
  6. Right-click on the new printer icon and select Properties
  7. Click on the Paper tab and select 4 up in Layout
  8. Click on the PostScript tab and select PostScript (optimize for portability - ADSC) and click on the Advanced tab
  9. Select PostScript Level 1 for RoPS. Click OK twice to get back to Windows.
  10. Close the Printers folder.
Any time you want to have your output crammed on less paper, print to the PostScript driver and open the resulting file in your PostScript Viewer to print to your real printer.

Windows 95 Quick Printing

windows95 enables you to quickly print files. To make it possible to print registered file types without opening any application follow these steps:

  • Open Explorer.
  • Copy your printer icons from the "printers" folder to the "windows\sendto" folder.
  • To print right-click the file in Explorer.
  • From the menu select "Send To"
  • Select printer you want to use...

The SendTo: folder is very useful. I added a shortcut to some programs to it. Now instead of double clicking the file and it automatically opening in the same program every time you can send it to any file you have in the SendTo: folder. Here're the shortcuts I've got in mine:

  • Mail Recipient
  • Floppy Drive
  • Printers
  • Fax
  • Recycling Bin
  • LView
  • PolyView
  • Word
  • WordPad
  • NotePad
  • HomeSite

Windows 95 Quick Printing Pt 2

Another quick printing method is as follows:

  • Right-drag a printer icon from Explorer to the desktop.
  • Create a shortcut to the printer.
  • From the Explorer you can now drag and drop files right onto the printer shortcut icon.
