Using Windows 95 Explorer
Rename the Recycle Bin
Paul Jones

Can I change the name of the Recycle Bin?

It's easy to change the names of most of the standard desktop icons--replacing the cutesy My Computer, for example, with something a little more dignified--by simply right-clicking on the icon and choosing Rename. So it's hard to imagine why Microsoft overlooked this one. To change the Recycle Bin's name, you'll have to go into the Registry again. Run Regedit, make a backup of the Registry, then scroll down to the key called HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}, and change the (Default) value to whatever you want--say, Trash Can. Restart Windows 95 (choosing Close All Programs and Log On as a Different User is sufficient), and the Recycle Bin will have a new name. Note that you can completely eliminate the name of any of the standard desktop icons: Simply rename the icon and make the new name a space. Look in the Quick Results sidebar at the front of this section to see the keys for some other common icons. Keys for the Microsoft Network and Internet icons are HKCR CLSID {00028B00-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} DefaultIcon and HKCRCLSID {FBF23B42-E3F0-101B-8488-00AA003E56F8} DefaultIcon, respectively.
