Netscape Communicator 4.51 New Netscape Features Ben Durbin
With the Web and Web browsers changing all the time, so too is Netscape Communicator. With Netscape now owned by AOL, it is looking to take back a piece of the market. To meet the needs of its customers, Netscape Communicator 4.51 -- a major enhancement to Netscape Communicator -- provides next-generation browsing, email, calendar, and information management features. There are benefits to Netscape Communicator 4.51 over previous versions of Netscape which will be the focus of this review. Let's check them out.
Smart Browsing
Ever find it difficult to find information that you really need? Smart Browsing helps solve this problem by adding intelligence to the navigation process. With Smart Browsing, Netscape Navigator provides users with new and easier ways to access information on the Internet. Simply enter a keyword into the location bar and Communicator will check Netcenter's database for a matching site. Having Smart Browser can be compared to having a search engine built into the browser.
Messenger
Messenger has gotten a much needed face lift. You now can choose a one-, two-, or three-pane view of your email. But that's not all. There is also the ability to import mail from Eudora and Outlook Express clients. However, in our tests Messenger had a problem importing from Outlook 98.
Netscape Messenger delivers all the powerful functionality and features that users are looking for in a mail client. With lots of usability improvements, it is one of the easier mail clients to learn and use. Netscape Messenger is enhanced with fast and accurate Pinpoint Addressing, mail import utilities, rich Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) standards support, and offline synchronization. All these make Netscape Messenger a high-performance Internet mail client designed to let users communicate easily and effectively on the Net.
