Office 2000 Premium Part II: Design with Publisher, FrontPage, and PhotoDraw
The Bottom Line
Douglas Smith

We have taken a good look at Publisher, FrontPage, and PhotoDraw 2000. These three products are complements to the Office 2000 suite and will flow into the others to be reviewed in Part 3 of this review series.

In terms of system requirements, you really need a good fast machine with plenty of memory and hard disk space to use these programs. The competition is tough, especially for PhotoDraw, but there is no question that with Publisher, FrontPage, and PhotoDraw 2000 you can't go wrong for ease of use. Atttention to team concepts is a real plus and just can't be overlooked when you are talking office suites. You could spend many dollars finding individual products that could perform as well as these or even better but when it comes to familiarity and consistent look and feel, making finding our way around the interface a snap.

The new features in Office 2000's core applications--Word, Excel, and Outlook?didn't exactly rock our world but we were thoroughly impressed with this group of offerings and found them to be a pleasure to use. Ease of use was also very impressive as was the performance. We were able to build pages, manipulate images, and build pretty complex documents with ease!

Publisher, FrontPage, and PhotoDraw 2000 aren't the top of the line applications to solve all design problems but go a long way to help you get the job done quickly and with ease. And no one does it better when it comes to program integration.

Next, in Part III we look at Access, PowerPoint and the Small Business Tools.
