After burning several CD and Tape backups we were impressed with the accuracy of the information stored and recovered. Speed was very good, even writing to disk which often is very slow, depending on the type of CD/RW drive. We thought that the help files were adequate and the interface put together in a way that was easy to understand, even for a novice with little or no reference to the actual help files.
The "bonus" Instant Recovery program, however, just didn’t cut it with us--mainly because when using CDs for backup compression just wasn’t good enough and required too many disks to even a rather small backup. Ghost 2000 does a better job and requires less disk space.
The compression used within the NovaBackup environment was very good and just didn’t seem the same as was used for the Instant Recovery. As we stated earlier, the program is supposed to work with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000 and it mostly does, but informing users up front about the inability to run some portions of a program really helps with the decision to buy. Not being able to do CD/DVD backups when using NT or Win2000 is no big deal, but unless you read the small print you may miss this one and start venting steam at the company later on.
A Pentium processor and 32 MB of memory is a must. NovaBackup is a very good product and goven its consistent backups and restores we have no problem using or recommending it to anyone.
