Advanced ZIP Password Recovery 3.11 AZPR 3.11: A Cracking Good Cracker Douglas Smith
Getting Your Data Back
Did you know that you could actually recover passwords on zip files that you may have felt were lost forever? It can be done, and rather easily, with a handy tool called Advanced ZIP Password Recovery 3.11(AZPR). This feat is performed using "brute force," dictionary-based, and known-plaintext attacks. AZPR has many features that help crack those passwords quickly, with a success rate of between 90 & 95 percent--which is rather remarkable. The user interface is quite attractive--easy-to-use but efficient, with tabs for various functions. Installation is very quick, and the help files are adequate to get you going with little trouble.
Not surprisingly, AZPR seemed to perform best on a Pentium II class PC or higher. Attack modes run on average of about two million passwords per second on newer PC's and AZPR can even handle Self-Extracting archives.
AZPR is developed by Elcomsoft Ltd., and the many features compare well with those of similar programs.
Feature list:
Convenient user interface
Very fast: about two million passwords per second (on Pentium II)
The program can work with archives containing only one encrypted file
Self-extracting archives are supported
Customizabilty: you can set the password length (or length range), the character set to be used to generate the passwords (non-English characters are supported), and other options
Dictionary-based attack allows checking for passwords from a dictionary
The "brute-force with mask" attack is available
Unlimited maximum password length (in registered version)
Very fast known-plaintext attack is available
Interruptibility--interrupt the program at any time, and resume from the same point later
Background operation--The program can work in the background, using the CPU whenever it is in idle state
We found AZPR had all of the capabilities needed to recover lost or forgotten passwords in Zip files.
System Requirements Windows 95/98/NT 4.0/2000 running on Pentium CPU, 4 megabytes of RAM and about 1 megabyte of hard disk space is sufficient.
