Remember the days when only one house on your street had a VCR? Well, CD Writers used to be the same way; you could search around your neighborhood and possibly find some one person with one. Not anymore; it seems that with the latest drops in price to (in some cases) less than $200.00, everyone has one or is planning to get one soon. This brings to mind another question: what kind of software are you going to use with your brand new CDR or CDRW machine? Most CD Writers come with software bundled that will perform ok for the basics of writing to CDs or creating music backups of your favorite songs. Many of us would be satisfied with this at first, but as time goes on we start wondering if there is something better out there, or some type of alternative software with more features and more control over what we are writing to CD. Prassi's PrimoCD Plus is not just an alternative, but a great alternative to most bundled software. PrimoCD Plus is being developed by Prassi Europe SARL, located in Le Mans, France, founded in 1999. Installation of PrimoCD Plus is very swift, taking only about a minute or so to load and up and running with out a single blurp after a restart!
On launch, a nice wizard menu offers three menu choices: Disk Copy, Data Disc, and Audio Disc creation. From here, there is access an Explorer-style drive property screen providing basic drive and media information. We found that most CD chores can be done from this point in the program without ever looking at the program's more advanced features. Another amazing thing about this program is its--under 3 meg on disk, amazing given its feature list.
