Deploying Windows 2000 can be a major undertaking and this section of the book assists in the planning process as well as the actual installation. Chapter 3 lists the many things to consider prior to installation, and provides all the information needed to make it as smooth and painless as possible. Chapter 4 gives the various ways to install and configure Windows 2000 Server while Chapter 5 covers the various ways to install and configure Windows 2000 Professional on network client computers or individual workstations.

Networking computers to share information is one of the most important functions of Windows 2000 and this section of the book covers all aspects of that topic.
Chapter 6 covers the basics of networking--describing the various networking schemes, networking hardware components and networking protocols. Chapter 7 explains the process of setting up basic networks within Windows 2000 covering such topics as how to set up the Network Interface Cards (NIC), installng the network functions and configuring network protocols.
Chapter 8 gives details of how Windows 2000 operates and communicates with Novell Netware networks. The two network operating systems are compared, the procedure for running both systems on the same network is discussed, and finally, migrating from Netware to Windows 2000 is covered.
A major change with Windows 2000 is the addition of Active Directory which provides a single reference to all the objects on a network. Chapter 9 describes the Active Directory environment and how to install and configure it. Chapter 11 introduces Internet Information Services Version 5 and the important role that IIS plays in Windows 2000. IIS is a collection of web-enabled services and protocols.
