Sensiva 1.07
Simplify Your Life
Jim Fox

Windows 98 is a great operating system, but after a period of time that startup menu can grow to be a mile long. Not to fear, you can always create shortcuts on your desktop for ready access to those programs used on a regular basis. That feature is so handy, that without even trying, the desktop can soon be just as cluttered with icons as the startup menu. All you really want to do is launch your favorite software program or access that favorite website. What's a person to do?

The folks at Sensiva, Inc. may have just the ticket. Sensiva is a unique tray-based utility that allows you to use all your software applications, navigate through your Websites, and control your system by drawing simple symbols on your screen with your right hand mouse button, touchpad or graphic tablet. Drawing symbols with your mouse may not sound very user friendly, but believe it or not, this little program works quite well. Once you learn the various symbols, it is very easy to use.

Sensiva allows you to draw symbols on the screen to execute any possible action, like:

  • "Y" to go to the Yahoo! website,
  • left and right straight lines to go back and forward through pages in your browser,
  • "W" to launch Word or
  • "S" to save a document

Sensiva is context sensitive and knows constantly which application you are using--IE, Netscape, Word, Internet, Photoshop, etc. As a result, you can draw the same symbols to execute the same actions (e.g. "Z" to Zoom everywhere) across different applications. Sensiva comes with a whole host of plugins for major applications. Sensiva is also fully customizable; each plug-in can hold any number of actions. Each action can contain any number of basic commands executed sequentially, such as:

  • Entering a Hotkey (e.g. Ctrl+C),
  • Executing a command line instruction to launch an application,
  • Executing a Menu command (e.g. File/Save),
  • Typing text, to insert a signature for instance,
  • Playing a sound, from any WAV file,
  • Calling system functions for special commands such as minimizing a window, auto-scrolling, quitting Windows, launching the screen saver, switching off the monitor, etc.

Each plug-in is entirely customizable. You can also create a new plug-in corresponding to a new application whenever you want, in a matter of seconds. An action is executed when you draw the corresponding symbol in a specific application. Customize the action library and easily create new symbols, and use them in any application.

Once Sensiva is up and running, click on the Sensiva "S" in the system tray to bring up the Sensiva Window. Then click on the drop-down list to select the plugin to work with. Double click on a symbol to bring up the Sensiva Action Editor and edit the actions associated with the symbol. Create a new symbol and then associate actions, if desired.

Sensiva is an intuitive command input technology that provides faster and fun-to-use shortcuts to all commands of favorite applications. This is one program that truly performs as advertised, and the price is right-- free! Give it a try, you just might like it.
