Here's what you'll need to use the USB RoboCAM:

  • System with USB support
  • Pentium 166 with MMX or higher
  • Windows 98 (I found that it also works on a Windows 95B system with a USB interface card)
  • Minimum 16MB RAM (I recommend at least 32 MB
  • Minimum 8MB free hard drive space

Keep in mind that those are the minimum requirements. I tested the RoboCAM on two machines, both of which exceeded the minimum hardware requirements, and although the camera worked fine, it used most of the available resources. I would recommend at least 32 MB of RAM.

LifeView USB RoboCAM Features:

  • Plug and play Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface for easy installation.
  • Captures up to 30 frames per second (352 x 288 pixels) full motion video.
  • Supports single frame snapshot up to 640 x 480 pixels.
  • Hot-swappable No need to turn off your PC when installing.
  • Low power consumption. Ideal for notebook computers.
  • Variable compression ratio for different applications.
  • Supports TWAIN interface for image editing applications.
  • No need for video capture card or power adapter.

In summary, the LifeView USB RoboCAM is not the camera to get if you plan of making professional short films. But if what you want to do is chat with family and friends via video conferencing, take videos of your kids and send them to grandma, or simply take pictures of yourself, this is the one to get. It doesn't get much easier than the LifeView USB RoboCAM.
