Quicken Lawyer Personal Is Now Quicken WillMaker Plus 2004
New Edition Helps with Estate Planning, Health-Care Directives
Eric Grevstad

Mon 9/22/03 -- Self-help legal book and software specialist Nolo has renewed its marketing alliance with Intuit to provide legal solutions under the Quicken brand name. Quicken WillMaker Plus 2004 -- the program previously known as Quicken Lawyer Personal -- helps consumers save on attorney's fees and avoid probate by evaluating their estate-planning needs and creating legally accurate wills, powers of attorney, promissory notes, and other documents.

Shipping at the end of the month, the $80 program lets users create valid estate-planning documents for 49 states (Louisiana excepted), including specific language required by various states, with instructions for signing and storage and for a will's executor or attorney-in-fact. As a security measure, Quicken WillMaker Plus documents prevent others from inserting text after the fact.

The program checks for and alerts users to common legal and mathematical errors, as well as situations that might call for hiring an attorney. An extensive on-screen guide offers maximum flexibility in choosing an estate plan, deciding between a living trust and a simple will, and creating forms for taking care of children and older relatives.
