Caligari TrueSpace 6.5 Adds Animation Engine to 3D Modeling More Power for Video Animators and Game Designers Eric Grevstad
Mon 2/3/03 -- Caligari Corp.'s TrueSpace has long been popular among studio professionals creating realistically rendered objects and 3D characters. Now those characters can come to life with the new animation engine, with sophisticated model behaviors and built-in physics, added to TrueSpace 6.5.
The upgrade's nonlinear animation capability lets users create complex animations from clips of motion sequences. After defining low-level behaviors in TrueSpace's existing Key-Frame view, a new, high-level Clip-view editor helps edit and blend the behaviors, giving new flexibility in experimenting with game development or video animation scenarios.
The program's core modeling environment has been enhanced with more control over object detail and workflow, including the ability to add extra detail without significantly increasing the polygon count of a model or assigning local physical environments to any object (causing, for instance, leaves to swirl at the passing of a car).
Geometry paint can place multiple copies of any object on the surface of another with a single, smooth brushstroke. Finally, new global and interactive replace tools enable single-click replacement of multiple objects.
TrueSpace 6.5 will ship later this month for $595.
